Nixie Clock

Nixie Clock
Greene and Greene Nixie Clock

This project combined my love of woodworking, electronics, Greene & Greene style, and Nixie tubes.

The box is mahogany with ebony splines, scaled down a bit to fit the clock size. It sits on a pedestal since otherwise it looks like a generic blob. Of course a key difference in this box is to have an opening for 6 nixie tubes. I thought about incorporating a cloud-lift element into the opening, but the proportions were wrong unless the overall size were increased, which was not desired.

The electronics are on a custom PCB, using a 6-digit controller from http://www.allspectrum.com/store/nixie-tube-clocks-and-kits-c-21.html

The board features a super-cap backup so time is preserved in the event of power loss. Also don't notice the blue wires, please.

The nixie tubes are Russian IN-12A, they're fairly available (and therefore affordable), most of the original Monsanto ones are rare and expensive now.
